The Repair Shop

23 November - 21 January

Re-home, reuse and repurpose.

Many things that appear unrepairable, are indeed repairable, with a little bit of tinkering or time from those whose passion & motivation, is to lovingly restore precious items, to their former glory.

We are much more motivated to preserve, to be sustainable & value the true cost of importance to the owner, the family connection and passing of tradition and memories.
Once associated with wartime sentiment of ‘make do and mend’, repairing neglected, or loved worn items, has increased with awareness of environmental and waste issues, this long underrated practice is gaining momentum.

By prolonging the life of belongings, we love, that have sentimental value or practical purpose, we contribute towards the reduction of using virgin materials, and act against unsustainable consumerism.

We live in a throw away culture, using an abundance of poor-quality high street furniture, furnishings and clothes, to
landfill and purchase more.

Preserving and purchasing old furniture and objet d’art, reduces landfill, reduces carbon emissions and reduces the consumption of new goods.

Loved items last, and those with a back – story are particularly special. Repairing heirlooms, childhood soft toy’s & trinket boxes, demonstrates the emotion and sentiment we attach to objects and how repair brings history to life again. We preserve memories & create conversation, to pass on to our children and theirs.

The barn in Antony is such an example, its restoration sympathetic to its original design – a new lease of life given to a redundant building, to create a hub for the benefit of local business and community.
